FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - MP JULIAN DELIVERS HOMEGROWN SQUASH TO BURNABY HOMELESS OUTREACH RESOURCE CENTRE

BURNABY – Today, NDP MP Peter Julian (New Westminster-Burnaby) delivered the first part of the 2021 harvest - 25 pounds of homegrown organic squash and zucchini to The Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby

“The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a light on inequality and food insecurity in our community. No one should have to go to bed hungry at night or wonder when their next meal will be. I am grateful to Chuck Puchmayr, City of New Westminster Councillor, for working with my spouse, Limei, and I to grow vegetables together on his farm on Barnston Island. All of us can do our part in different ways to contribute to local food banks.  Please donate to local food banks if you have homegrown fruits and vegetables,” stated Julian.

“Our clients love fresh squash and zucchini. The demand for food and basic necessities has increased exponentially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have seen a surge in the number of guests at our weekly drop-in Outreach Research Centre,” said Carol-Ann Flanagan, Executive Director of The Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby.
