Après sa comparution sur les fermetures d'usine à Gatineau et Dolbeau, AbitibiBowater pourrait être appelé de nouveau devant un comité parlementaire pour éclaircir le règlement intervenu avec le gouvernement fédéral, qui a accepté lui de verser 130 millions$ pour régler une dispute liée à une expropriation de certaines de ses installations à Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador.

NDP blasts AbitibiBowater settlement

The federal New Democratic Party wants a hearing into the Conservative government's $130-million settlement with Abitibi Bowater.

The insolvent pulp and paper company settled its lawsuit, launched under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the federal government Aug. 24 after the province of Newfoundland and Labrador seized its assets in 2008.

OTTAWA – New Democrats are calling for committee hearings into the Harper government’s $130 million payout to Abitibi Bowater after the company threatened a NAFTA challenge in its dispute with the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mr. Peter Julian (Burnaby—New Westminster, NDP): Mr. Speaker, after six months of stonewalling, the NDP forced the release by the current government of a withheld report on Colombia.

In addition to the systematic killings of labour activists, aboriginal people, Afro-Colombians and human rights advocates by government forces, we now find out about the systematic targeting of lesbian, gay and bisexual community leaders. We mourn their deaths.
