PETER JULIAN HONOURED TO BE NAMED TO NDP SHADOW CABINET

BURNABY– Peter Julian, MP (Burnaby-New Westminster) was named today by Official Opposition Leader Jack Layton to the position of Industry Critic in the shadow cabinet of the NDP.
Julian was also named Deputy National Caucus Chair and has been named to the NDP’s Priority and Planning Committee which mirrors the federal cabinet’s inner cabinet structure. The Priorities and Planning Committee will be chaired by Vancouver East MP Libby Davis, who also assumes the role of Heath Critic.
“I am honoured to take my place on the front bench of the NDP team as we begin our new role as Official Opposition in the House of Commons”, said Julian. “To be named to the shadow cabinet as well as the inner shadow cabinet is a great privilege”, he added.
The NDP assumed the role of Official Opposition following the election on May 2nd with a record 103 seats in Parliament. Other Lower Mainland MPs named to the shadow cabinet today are Fin Donnelly (New Westminster-Coquitlam-Port Moody) Fisheries and Oceans, Jasbir Sandhu (Surrey North) Public Safety and Don Davies (Vancouver Kingsway) Immigration.
“The shadow cabinet named today will be a dedicated, energetic group of Canadians working together to assure a better future for hard working families and individuals”, concluded Julian.
