40th Parliament, 2nd Session
Mr. Peter Julian (Burnaby—New Westminster, NDP): Mr. Speaker, next month it will be one year that Birtukan Mideksa, the Ethiopian opposition leader, has been wrongfully imprisoned by the Ethiopian junta.
I have over a hundred petitioners from the cities of Toronto, Mississauga, from Scarborough and southern Ontario calling on the government to use all diplomatic means at its disposal, including using the forum that is provided at the United Nations to exert maximum pressure on the government of Ethiopia to immediately and unconditionally release Madam Mideksa and allow her to participate fully in her position as the leader of a political party in Ethiopia.
